文化さばとは、真空パックなどの技術がなかった時代に干物をそのまま売るのではなくセロハンに包んで販売したところ、見た目もよく当時画期的だったことから『文化』が付けられたらしい。
その後、製法が発達し水産加工業界では、冷風乾燥機を使用した干物を文化干しと言うようになった。
